I completed obtained my Bachelors, Honours and PhD in computer science degrees all from the Australian National University (ANU). After completing my studies, I worked for 1.5 years as a postdoc research associate in the department of computer science at the university of Vermont. I then started work at La Trobe University as a Lecturer in 2004, was appointed to senior lecture in 2008, and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2014.
During my PhD and postdoc, I worked on performance optimization of database systems. My current research interests are in deep learning and big data. I lead a deep learning research group at La Trobe university. The group is working with a number of different industry partners on the application of deep learning to a variety of different application areas, including, medical image analysis, image segmentation, object detection, activity recognition in video, etc.
