BRIEF BIO

I am a Reader and Associate Professor at the Department of Computer Science and Computer Engineering in La Trobe University. I lead the Pervasive Computing Group at La Trobe, and have authored 'Context-Aware Pervasive Systems: Architectures for a New Breed of Applications' published by Auerbach (CRC Press), Dec 2006.

I have (co-)authored more than 210 research publications including 34 journal papers, 10 book chapters, and over 150 conference/workshop papers, with numerous work on context-aware computing, and mobile and pervasive computing. I have been on the program committee of numerous conferences/workshops in the area, including Pervasive'08 and Percom'10 (and 2011). My research has been published in journals such as IEEE Pervasive, Knowledge Engineering Review, Elsevier's Pervasive and Mobile Computing Journal, IEEE Transactions on SMC, Personal and Ubiquitous Computing, MONET, Journal of Systems and Software, Journal of Network and Computer Applications and Theory and Practice of Logic Programming. I have also published in leading conferences in the pervasive, middleware, and services computing areas including Percom (ERA ranking: A), International Conference on Service-Oriented Computing (ICSOC) (ERA ranking: A), Mobiquitous (ERA ranking A), HICSS (ERA ranking: A), and Middleware (ERA ranking: A). In December 2011, using Harzing's PoP (Publish or Perish) software, my h-index is 21, with over 1800 citations to my work.

I completed my PhD in 1998 at the University of Melbourne, and the BSc (Hons) in 1994 at the Australian National University winning a University Medal in Computer Science. I am an Honorary Associate of the Center for Distributed Systems and Software Engineering, Monash University.

RESEARCH

Current Research Interests, Projects and PhD Supervision:

Completing PhD Students:

  1. Anh-Tuan Nguyen (PhD - La Trobe University), Place-Based Virtual Communities for Context-Aware Applications, co-supervise with Torab Torabi, my role (principal, 50%, submitted)
  1. Kutila Gunasekera (PhD - Monash University), On Capabilities for Context-Aware Software Agents, co-supervise with Arkady Zaslavsky, my role (minor, 10%, submitted)

I am also interested in mobile education & health, green computing, and new forms of HCI (using sensors)
