Department Of Computer Science & Computer Engineering
Games Technology Research Lab
Computer games have grown from being developed by a small team of
people to being major commercial projects produced by number of
teams working for years. It is a rapidly growing industry at the
leading edge of contemporary development worth multi-billion dollars.
Today, computer games have become part of everyday lives and are
usually played in real time, allow very complex player interaction
and provide a rich and dynamic virtual environment. As the complexity
of games has increased, development roles have become defined. So
games developers now have clearly marked areas of specialist knowledge
and skills.
The Department has developed close links
with a number of game companies and government bodies such as Sony
Foundation , Microsoft, Tantalus, Torus Games and Multimedia Victoria.
With support from the Games Industry, the Department has established
a Games Technology Laboratory headed by Dr. John Rankin. This laboratory
is an active group of staff and postgraduate researchers involved
in exciting research and development in Games Technology. The Laboratory
also organises seminars, regular discussion forums and industry
presentations.
